A UX bite before the weekend
This week Iāve been working on some subscription screens for a project, so I did a quick research to see how most apps handle it.
When it comes to payments UX, it's important to keep things clear and secure for users. Even if the goal of free trials is to ātrickā them into a subscription, we need to be fair. Headspace has a great solution for this:
What is the number one frustration users have with free trials? Yes, you guessed it right. People forget to cancel their subscriptions. (Have you ever paid $50+ for a product you havenāt even used? Welcome to the club! šāāļø)
Now, back to Headspace:
Breaking down the timeline like this makes everything clear. Our goal is to convince users to subscribe, while also letting them know they can cancel before the first payment. So they have the freedom of choice. Headspace also sends out a reminder before the payment deadline. This is a great way to be upfront and boost user confidence.
For our app, we'll probably end up doing something similar. It's important to nail the value proposition before this screen, and then we'll have 7 days to convince the user not to cancel their subscription. No dark UX involved.
By the way, I never used Headspace, that screenshot is from Mobbbin, my favorite design resource. I use it every day to discover flows and solutions from real apps. Real apps. With research and a massive user base behind. Dribbble doesnāt stand a chance:
I searched āsubscription screensā
They are not sponsoring this newsletter, but if you want to try the pro version (which is unfortunately way more powerful than the free plan), hereās a 20% discount: Check Mobbin out now! You will love it.
(You will see the discount after creating an account.)
Is there any app you *love* this week? Let me know, Iām always ready for some juicy new UIs. I read every reply.
Aaand have a pixel-perfect day!
